While I don’t think we should stay in Iraq indefinitely I wonder about the long term repercussions of leaving before Iraq can fend for itself. I don’t know if its even possible for that region to be stable without some sort of Saddam dictator at the helm so we very well may have put ourselves in an unwinable position.
But, I imagine there’s a very real possiblity that should we leave prematurely this "national civil war" will turn into a regional war with Iran, Syria, the Kurds and possibly Turkey all joining in the fray. Wouldn’t that be disastorous on a collossal scale? Regional instability would be an understatment. And, we’d just have to go back.
Why is it seemingly impossible to get the world community to help in this endeavor? Is it that W and co are incapable of asking or is it that the rest of the world would rather sit and watch? If the dems get their way, and it looks like they will, the US will be out of Iraq in the not so distant future. Won’t it then become the world’s problem?
My opinions, thoughts and whatnot on whatever.
